The House of Simon the leper.
Matthew 26:6-7 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
Well who was Simon the Leper? In 3 of the 4 Gospel accounts, Matthew, Mark and Luke it mentions the story of how a leper was healed....Here is one of the 3. The other is found in Mark 1:40-45 and Luke 5:12-14.
In Matthew 8:1-4 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Simon the Leper was privileged to have been touched by the Master and had returned to his home after Jesus healed him. This was mostly unheard of, lepers being healed. Because without him being completed healed and showing himself to the priests, this would not have been allowed. Lepers were left to die away from everyone dear to them.
It doesn't say how long he was a leaper but nevertheless he returned home and that is a blessing. 18 Chapters later in Matthew we see Jesus in Simon's house probably to give thanksgiving to Him who healed him and a woman with an alabaster box came and anointed Jesus. How precious it was that it was his home when this occurred! It was a memorial occasion.
Here is why I brought Simon to your attention. Here you have a man with a deadly disease separated from his people, his family, truly rejected by society left to die....and when he cried out to Jesus, he came to hear his need and restored him to God and men. How wonderful that God hears our cries, our needs.
Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
But on the contrast of this wonderfully restored man, who was his son?
We enjoy reading your wise words. They are enspiring.
