In Genesis 3:17-18 it is written, "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; THORNS also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee;and thou shalt eat the herb of the field:"
Thorns and thistles were created after the seven days of creation as a result of Adam's sin in the Garden of Eden for rebelling against God's command. And as a result, amazingly, Our Lord Jesus Christ took on himself the sin curse for created man. The sin curse of THORNS was contributed to Christ's suffering for sin symbolically with the crown of thorns (beginning of man's original sin on the earth) that was forced upon him. Let us see in the gospels.
We read in Matthew 27:27-29 "Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gatherred unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying Hail, King of the Jews!" Mark 15:17 and John 19:5 also witness the Lord Jesus wearing the crown of thorns on his head.
2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
Hebrew 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
How we remember what Jesus did for us and how there was divine purpose in his love to finish the mission on earth and to not come off that cross to save fallen man! Halleluia to Jesus Our Savior!
Let us remember Him this coming Resurrection Day and every day and tell as many lost about his love and what he did for us! Amen
