Recently, I was deeply impressed and so were the Food Network Judges during the final result of a Cooking Contest on a popular television show called Chopped. I don't watch much television other than my 3 favorite shows...Little House on the Prairie...Highway to Heaven...Duggars 19 Kids and Counting...but Chopped is a great show of raw cooking talent for Chefs who have to make the best of what they are given for a 3 meal course: Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert and create something wonderfully edible out of some unsavory(sometimes disgusting) ingredients, in a short amount of time. One Chef is eliminated or Chopped after the judgment of each course. The Champion is the one left who the Judges thought had the best overall cooking talent and creativity and given a prize of $10,000.
This show always reminds me kinda like how God takes us rejected, unsavory souls and by Faith creates in our hearts something brand new that He delights in as it is written in 2 Corinthians 5:17..Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
On this episode there were 2 amazing outcomes.
The first was a Chef who during the cooking of the main course ran to the sink to drain the water from her boiling hot pot of potatoes. As she dashed to the sink, she slipped and the boiling hot water spilled on both her lower legs causing instant 2nd degree burns but amazingly, she got up and through pain and agony finished her course and was good enough to move on to the final dessert round. Her motivation? She wanted to win to pay for a ticket to go see her dying Grandmother in Europe.
The second was the Chef who actually won the contest was a Christian and did let it be known of his Faith. As the Contest was underway, he was intrigued with the other Chef's motivation to win so she could see her dying grandmother. Just before the final judgment outcome, they both were pleased with each others performance and complimented the others talent to cook. And they both agreed, "No matter what happens, We are both winners!"
Amazingly, as the Judges gave the final proclamation to the Christian as winner and the other Chef was departing....the winning Chef immediately shouted...."Um,......I wasn't expecting to win today and don't need the money.....so I WILL BUY YOUR TICKET!....WE ARE BOTH WINNERS TODAY!" You should have seen the look on everyone's faces!! Jaws were dropped and eyes were big! And she was so touched by the Christian's generosity she cried so deep full of gratitude and gave him a big hug and departed.
You know what he did, he let his light shine to the Glory of God!...Matthew 5:16.. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. And I had read in my devotionals, in the Psalms Chapter 37:21..The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: BUT THE RIGHTEOUS SHOWETH MERCY, AND GIVETH. Why did this Brother give to someone he didn't even know? Because he was sensitive to the obedience of the Spirit through Compassion(Love moved to action expecting nothing in return(Charity) ) to give Honor and Glory to God in it! He may have just planted the biggest seed in this woman's life to seek Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
that's a great story!
